Filipinas Heritage Library receives Presidential Citation from Malacañan

The Filipinas Heritage Library (FHL) received a Presidential Citation last June 28. The citation, awarded by Executive Secretary Leandro Mendoza, who represented President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, was given in recognition of FHL’s unwavering support of the endeavors of the National Book Development Board (NBDB) in promoting Filipino authorship.

For the past three years, FHL has partnered with the NBDB in mounting various programs and events geared towards promoting a general love of reading especially of locally-authored titles, and providing venues for exchange of ideas among stakeholders (publishers, authors, students, and the academe) for the further development of the local publishing industry. Included in these projects are the annual Philippine Book Development Month, the Teens Read, Too! reading campaign for young adults, the Buklat Bulilit Children’s Book Festival, a Book and Arts Fest, writing workshops and tours (Metro Manila, Pampanga, Bulacan, Laguna, and Quezon), the publication of a catalogue of award-winning Filipino titles, and many others. Last year, the 13th Philippine Book Development Month reiterated the unique talent of the Filipino writer in a campaign entitled Galing Pinoy, Basahin!, an initiative to encourage Filipinos to read the brilliant works of their own countrymen.
