SAYAW, SABEL Boasts of Stellar Cast

SAYAW, SABEL will have a stellar cast of dancers when it holds its run of performances in Metro Manila, Laguna, Bacolod, Iloilo and Davao City in June and July, 2010. Primarily a dance concert under the direction of celebrated choreographer, Agnes Locsin, SAYAW, SABEL will feature the talents of prominent dance artists who dominated the dance scene in the 1990’s.

Performers include Perry Sevidal, currently director of her own dance school in San Antonio Village, who was a prominent member of Ballet Philippines where she essayed memorable roles like Tinker Bell of Edna Vida’s Peter Pan and Dopey of Effie Nanas’ Snow White. In SAYAW, Perry sheds off her comedic cloak and instead tackles a dance on Alzheimer’s disease, that vicious thief that takes away memories.

Christine Crame, now the Artistic Director of St. Benilde’s Romancon Dance Company, through her leadership and choreography, has garnered for the group top awards from various dance competitions such as the Dance Celebration Contemporary Dance Competition in 2008-2010; the Koronadal Modern Dance Competition in 2009 and the Wifibody Modern Dance Contest in 2008. In SAYAW, Christine will bare her feet once more and dance the dance of the Abandonada.

Also in the production are Camille Ordinario, Georgette Sanchez, and Sonny Locsin. Camille, who has recently chosen to join the independent world of dance, is a silver medalist of the Concours International De Danse de Paris in 1994. In 2000, Georgette took over as silver medalist in the same competition while Sonny bagged a special prize. Since then, Georgette has joined other companies in Austria and Germany while Camille stayed on with Ballet Philippines and eventually became its principal dancer. Sonny, on the other hand, joined companies in France, Portugal, and Italy before finally settling down with the Oper Am Rhein Ballett Theater in Dusseldorf, Germany.

In 1994, Agnes Locsin won the Prince Takamado Award and the Silver Medal at the 2nd Tokyo International Choreography Competition with her neo-ethnic dances, Babalyan and Moriones. Gaye Galiluyo and Dwight Rodrigazo were part of the team that garnered the coveted award for Agnes’ choreography. Since then, Gaye has won the First Prize Winner for performance and interpretation of WHICH CLUB? at the 9th International Solo Tanz Theater in 2004 in Germany while Dwight’s choreography won 1st place at the Koronadal Modern Dance Competition that same year.

Winners all and more perform in SAYAW, SABEL on June 26, 2010 at the PETA Theater Center in Quezon City and will have a repeat performance at the Ayala Museum on July 18 after which the show will go on tour to Silay City(July 23), Bacolod City (July 24), Iloilo City (July 27) and Davao City (July 30 & 31). Each show will have seven dance artists and a featured theater artist portraying the title role. Every performance will thus be an experience unlike the other.
