Ruben de Jesus’ role as visual communicator, specifically children’s book illustration, is very evident in his collection of pen and ink drawings. Inspired by the simplicity of the Filipino family’s way of life, the objective of this exhibit is to capture the scenes of Filipino family life using the pen and ink medium. Heritage and tradition are also reflected in his illustrations through the exploration of duotone effects achieved by combining strokes of red and black or blue and black. Through this, the subjects of his artwork are brought to life, and each piece portrays a story just like in a children’s book.
